Are there any peer educators who are not eligible?
The project focuses on Minority AIDS Initiative priority populations.
Eligible Peer Educators must be black/African American, Asian/Pacific
Islander, Latino(a)/Hispanic, Native American, or Biracial--or individuals
who serve these communities.
The project provides service only to Peer Education staff/volunteers
who are NOT clinically trained or healthcare professionals/paraprofessionals.
Peer educators can be part-time or full-time staff or volunteers.
Workshops and technical assistance will be tailored to match the needs
of participants, whether they are staff or volunteers.
What populations must our organization serve?
To be eligible to participate, your organization must provide peer education
services directly to people with HIV/AIDS among
Black/African American,
Asian/Pacific Islander,
Latino(a)/Hispanic,
Native American, and/or
Biracial communities
What kinds of organization can apply?
The following are the types of organizations that typically provide
services that are a focus of the California Peer Educator Project. This
list is not exclusive. Organizations providing HIV/AIDS services to black/African
American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latino(a)/Hispanic, Native American
or Biracial communities are all encouraged to apply.
Community Health Centers
Migrant Health Centers
Community Based Organizations
AIDS Service Organizations
Faith-Based Institutions
Public Health Department and Hospital Institutions
Other organizations providing HIV/AIDS services to black/ African
American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latino(a)/Hispanic, Native American
and Biracial Communities.
