Group Opportunties

We love hosting corporate and philanthropic volunteer groups! Depending on the size of your group, desired schedule and strengths, there are many ways you can contribute to Shanti’s mission of supporting San Francisco’s most vulnerable..

Special Events and Fundrasiers
The Shanti model of peer Shanti hosts two events annually - Petchitecture, the first San Francisco gala for humans and canines, to benefit the PAWS Program, and Compassion is Universal, our agency-wide gala. Petchitecture and Compassion is Universal take place in May and October, respectively.

These events require a great deal of physical labor to pull off, and we find that groups who plan ahead to assist us with these high-stakes events typically offer us the most benefit for their time. Volunteer teams can contribute to our setup and breakdown, or assist us during the events with greeting guests, registration, silent auction and many other tasks that come up. We should note that any groups wishing to attend an event could still assist during setup if you so choose.

Additionally, Shanti recruits volunteers for various fundraisers, including AIDS Walk and the Folsom Street Events throughout the year.

If interested in supporting Shanti at any of these events, please contact Volunteer Services.

Client Dog Wash
Another way groups can tangibly support Shanti is to volunteer at our client dog washes. Many of our clients have difficulty bathing their furry friends due to physical or resource limitations, and assisting us with dog washing is a fantastic way to meet the clients we serve, love up on some sweet pups, and have a ton of fun! The dog washes are truly an endorphin-booster, and a must-do for any group desiring to support Shanti and our PAWS Program.

Because the dog washes have become immensely popular, we often book up several months in advance, and ask for a sponsorship from any group able to donate. If interested please contact Tina Valentin Aguirre, Associate Director - Institutional Giving, for more information.

Propose Your Own
Due to resource limitations and the generosity of regular administrative volunteers, we are often unable to provide groups with enough work to fill a normal shift. However, we are open to suggestions! If you have a project idea, please contact Mark Molnar, and we will work with you to try and find a solution that makes sense for your team, our clients, and Shanti staff. Past groups have hosted fundraisers, pet food and clothing drives, and others have created client care packages.

Group volunteering is a wonderful way to promote team-building, support your local community and have a good time. We look forward to working with you in the future!
